The top baking trends for 2023

As a thriving bakery, it’s important that we keep up-to-date with food and baking trends that are making waves in the industry and make sure we stay relevant and innovative ourselves.

It’s always interesting to see what’s going to be hot for the coming year and we thought we would share some of what we found with you too.

Traditional bakes with a twist

When it comes to baking, nostalgia has always been huge. We all enjoy tucking into a delicious dessert from our childhoods, but in 2023, it looks like bakers will be giving traditional bakes a bit of a twist to keep them fresh for the younger generation. Think using caramel or mocha instead of coffee or introducing lime instead lemon.

Experience based shopping

Due to the current cost of living crisis, community bakeries like ours are set to become even more important according to industry experts, as it’s not just about the eating, it’s also about the experience and the customer care we can offer. People are predicted to be more likely to buy weekly treats if they feel valued and enjoy the social activity.

New flavours

People are always up for trying new flavour combinations, fusing different cultures and discovering new taste experiences and we were very interested to hear that umami and ‘swicy’ (sweet and spicy) flavours will be working their way into pastry and chocolate creations during the coming year too.
